Having demonstrated our expertise for working on listed buildings, and having recently completed two projects for our client – XL Real Estate, we are delighted to announce a new project win to convert the former Lamb Tavern public house in Islington, North London.
The project will involve converting the basement area, and former pub area into two high specification self-contained duplex apartments. Alongside this, we will be refurbishing the existing 12 apartments on the upper floors as well as extensive façade restoration works.
The Lamb Tavern was built in 1855 on the north east corner of the Metropolitan Cattle Market (Caledonian Market). The market, commissioned by the Corporation of the City of London to support Smithfield, was designed by James Bunstone Bunning. The Lamb Tavern was one of 4 taverns, The Lion, The Lamb, The Black Bull and The White Horse situated around and serving the market and known as the “Pepper Pots”.
Of the taverns, The Black Bull has been demolished to make way for housing and The White Horse and The Lion have been converted into apartments. The Lamb up to now had been partially converted into apartments, with this project completing the conversion.
Assan Hussain, Managing Director, commented “We are delighted to have been awarded this project having demonstrated our expertise and experience of working on listed buildings, and having demonstrated first hand the quality of our project delivery on the previous two projects for XL.
Praveen Reddy, Director of XL Real Estate added “DAKO have already completed two projects for XL, both to a very high standard and on time. They have consistently demonstrated an ability to drive jobs forward and have offered unrivalled cost value”
